Most traders do not lose because they lack a strategy. They lose because they are not at the screen when the setup appears. Alerts on TradingView fix exactly that. Here is how to set them up properly.
1. What Alerts Actually Do
An alert watches a condition for you and notifies you the moment it is met. Instead of staring at charts for hours, you define the level or the signal once, then live your life. The chart calls you, not the other way round.
2. Level Alerts: The Simplest Useful Kind
Pick a key support or resistance level, right-click the chart, and choose “Add alert”. Set the condition to “Crossing” rather than “Greater than” so you are notified in both directions. This is the workhorse alert for anyone trading structure.
3. Indicator Alerts Beat Price Alerts
Price alerts tell you something happened; indicator alerts tell you your condition was met. If your system is trend-based, alert on the signal itself — a moving average cross, a trend-cloud flip, or a momentum shift — instead of trying to guess the price in advance.
4. One Alert per Level, Not Ten
Alert spam is a real problem: if every 5-minute candle triggers a notification, you will start ignoring all of them. Keep one alert per meaningful level, use “Once per bar close” to avoid intra-candle noise, and delete alerts once the level is broken.
5. Set Alerts at the Timeframe You Trade
An alert on the 1-minute chart will fire all day; an alert on the 4-hour chart will fire a few times a month. Match the alert timeframe to your trading timeframe, and add the higher-timeframe level as a second, slower alert.
6. The Workflow That Scales
Mark your levels once a day, set one alert per level, and add signal alerts from your system. Then check the chart only when an alert fires. Fewer decisions, better decisions.
7. Let the System Do the Watching
Manual alerts still require you to be right about which level matters. Atlas Trend Core combines trend confirmation with defined entries and risk levels, so the signal itself is the trigger. Try it free for 7 days and see the difference.
